Seal hunting, three species of seals are hunted in Iceland. Hunting season is open all year. Prime hunting period varies depending on species and hunting area. No limit.

A standard seal hunting program consists of five days, thereof 3 days of hunting. For best results we suggest a hunting group with 2 - 3 hunters.

In the south east coast we have a house with a hunting area just out from the window. At this place we can expect 2 different species of seals, Grey seal and Common seal. Here you can also try your luck, fishing sea-trout in the river running beside the lodge. Grey seal can weigh up to 500 kg, but the weight of common seal is 70 - 120 kg. At this place on the sout east coast you can also hunt cormoran, ducks guillemot and sometimes geese after September 1st.

A standard program :

Day 1 : In the afternoon you will arrive at Keflavik International Airport where you will be met by the outfitter. The outfitter will clear your weapons through customs and then transfer you to Reykjavik. That evening you will arrive at the place chosen for the hunt. We have various hunting places depending on time of the year and weather.

Day 2 : We wake up early for breakfast. We may hunt from a boat with a shotgun using slug or buck shot, a rifle or a bow and arrow - hunters choice. Or we may go on shore and shoot swimming seals or seals lying on sea rocks with a rifle at a distance from 100 to 300 meters. We retrieve them by light Zodiac.

Day 3 : Same schedule.

Day 4 : Same schedule. At the the end of the day you will return to Reykjavik by an airplane or car depending on where you will be hunting. Late dinner in Reykjavik.

Day 5 : Transfer to Keflavik International Airport early in the morning, arriving at a European airport around noon.

Hunting season : All year round. The best hunting period for Grey and Common seal is August, September and October.

The hunt : A day´s result for a hunter can be anywhere between 1 - 10 seals. This depends of course on the shooting ability of each hunter, but weather will certainly also influence the result.

What to bring : Shotgun, gauge 12, double barrel or 3-shot pump or semi-automatic and a scoped rifle 6mm- 7,62mm are the most suitable. Warm waterproof / windproof outer clothing, warm underwear and preferably knee-high rubber boots. Temperatures can vary from 0 - +15° centigrade, but generally the temperature is fluctuating from +5° to +10 centigrade. Upon booking we supply a detailed item list. No limit !!!
