Seabird (puffin and guillemot) hunting is a very popular sport in Iceland. Prime hunting period is from April 20th until May 10th. Hunting from boat, 100 birds per day per hunter is common. Iceland is the only country in the world where you can hunt puffins. No limit.

A standard seabird hunting program consists of five days, thereof 3 days of hunting. For best results we suggest a hunting group with 2 - 3 hunters.

A standard program :

Day 1 : In the afternoon you will arrive at Keflavik International Airport where you will be met by the outfitter. The outfitter will clear your weapons through customs and then transfer you to Reykjavik.

Day 2 : We usually wake up at 03:00 in the morning and go out from the harbour around 04:00. It takes 40-50 minutes to sail out to the hunting area. How long we hunt depends on the weather, but usually we return to the harbour no later than 14:00 in the afternoon. If the wind is too strong we go in earlier.

Day 3 : Same schedule.

Day 4 : Same schedule.

Day 5 : Transfer to Keflavik International Airport early in the morning, arriving at a European airport around noon.

Hunting season : From September 1st until May 10th. The best hunting period is April 20th until May 10th.

The hunt : A day´s result for a hunter can be anywhere between 10-200 birds. This depends of course on the shooting ability of each hunter, but weather will certainly also influence the result. During this hunt you will usually be able to shoot all five types of guillemot birds(Alcidae), Guillemot, Black Guillemot, Brünnich’s Guillemot, Razorbill and Puffin.

What to bring : Shotgun, gauge 12, a 3-shot pump or semi-automatic is the most suitable. Warm waterproof / windproof outer clothing, warm underwear and preferably knee-high rubber boots. Temperatures can vary from 0 - +15° centigrade, but generally the temperature is fluctuating from +5° to +10 centigrade. Upon booking we supply a detailed item list.
